Canberra – The National Capital

Australia’s National Capital, Canberra remains the hallmark destination for your school’s excursion, offering a vast array of unique educational attractions and activities to suit the national curriculum.

Established as part of the Australian Federation in 1901, Canberra is home to National Parliament, Federal Government departments, The High Court of Australia, The Australian War Memorial and several other important institutions that will leave students with a wealth of knowledge and a wonderful experience.

Home to some of the greatest landmarks in Australia a trip to Sydney is not one for your school to miss.

Whether you wish to cruise across the Harbour, visit the animals at Taronga Zoo; view the Sydney skyline from 260m above ground level or explore the city’s history, there is always something exciting for your students to do in Sydney.

NSW Snowfields

There are various school activities to be undertaken when in the Snowy Mountains. These range from general snow play, tobogganing, ski tubing, skiing and snow boarding.

The Snowy Hydro Scheme is located in Cooma and provides a hands-on experience regarding this elaborate system.

Helpful Planning Tips

To confirm a quotation, a non-refundable deposit of $100 - $200 per student is required (depending on travel requirements). Deposits will be due within 4 weeks of booking accommodation, or 3 weeks where airfares are required.

Canberra is very popular during Term 3, mainly due to the Snowy Mountains option that can be included for students. Remember though, if travelling to the snow is not a key driver of your school’s excursion, then there are considerable savings to be made during Term 1.

Contact us to get a list of the savings your school can make. Parliamentary sitting dates are also a key driver for schools, so if this component is a key reason for travelling to Canberra, be sure to check the dates and more importantly, accommodation availability.

All other destinations advertised are available for travel all year round.

We offer various types of accommodation—motels, cabins, bunkhouses etc—so when booking, try to have some idea of the type of accommodation that your school requires.

Also, most accommodation includes a meal package so be sure to enquire as to whether they will meet any dietary or religious requirements of students.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a member of the school group fell sick or had an accident while away on a school excursion?

At Unearth-Ed we have negotiated an exclusive School Group Travel insurance policy with one of the top bus and coach insurance brokers in NSW and through one of Australia’s leading insurers.

For further information please contact our office.

There are no hidden extra costs. Our tours are fully inclusive and the costs are based on paying students and FOC supervisors. Tour prices may be altered at the discretion of the company due to external influences.

Be mindful of timing when sending or submitting your ‘wish list’ of attractions so that you are not disappointed if you are not able to fit everything into the duration of your stay.

Remember to also state if you are requiring ‘guided’ or ‘self-guided’ tours and ensure you book into programs at attractions that support your curriculum focus.

When planning your choice of destinations, remember to contact us should you need further details for any venues.

Ensure you pack accordingly—remember that each student will be responsible for their own belongings so they should be able to manage their individual luggage.

Be sure to check with our team if your accommodation supplies linen so you can advise the students if sleeping bags/towels/linen are required.

Finally, be aware of the time of travel with regards to weather conditions and pack to suit the extremes (refer to the temperature guide chart).

We can arrange whichever mode of transport you prefer, depending on your school’s location. We utilise Virgin Australia and Qantas for your flights (where possible) and various coach companies. We also offer bus or coach transport whilst in Canberra so as to meet your budget requirements.

When travelling interstate, we will always utilise seat-belted, fully air conditioned coach transport for your comfort and safety. Should your school’s excursion require flights, one baggage item of no more than 20kg can be checked-in and one carry-on bag per person is allowed – further travel details will be provided upon confirmation of your booking.

Well organised and extremely flexible staff. We needed to change our ski location at the last minute and it was done without drama. Coach drivers were courteous, generous with their time and performed all duties professionally.

With over eighty students and staff, one would expect hiccups along the way. Our trip ran smoothly from the minute we boarded the plane until we arrived back home.

Well done, UnEarthed!
